A Creative Fairyland of Houseplants & Axolotls: Visit Easy Little Plants in Olney, Maryland!

Updated: Oct 12

Hi, I'm Savannah! I'm 23 years old. 2 years ago, I opened my own houseplant shop, starting off on a shoe string budget. With time, love, and creativity, it's become the type of place people say they wish they could spend all day at or live in.

I'd like to thank you so much for checking out my shop. Your support means the world. This place is my passion project, meant to recreate and share the same type of joy I felt when I'd visit the local nature center as a kid.

Easy Little Plants is one of those places that instantly makes you smile when you walk in. The shop is calm, colorful, and full of aquariums, greenery, and tiny details that make it truly cozy and magical.

It's not "Buy things and get out!" like most stores. It's about exploring, learning, asking questions, and having a nice time.

I deal with some health issues, so sometimes my mom or dad will substitute at the shop for me. Though I may not always be able to physically be at the shop, I'm always up for talking about plants and answering questions.

I'm always excited when my parents call me, telling me a customer has questions. Helping people with plants always makes me happy.

The shop is open from 1-7 Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 1-5 on Sundays. Things can get a bit busy at home, so I can be late at times. It's usually better to come by at 1:15 or later, just in case.

A Friendlier Shopping Experience

Our goal is to be a source for healthy, pest-free plants, from easy classics to underrated gems you won’t find anywhere else. Every plant we sell is set up in a way that's beginner-friendly. We give clear, easy to follow instructions.

We won't say "medium watering". We'll tell you, instead, that a particular plant likes around a teaspoon of water once per week, and that you can have "Watering Wednesdays" to help you remember.

There's no such thing as a stupid question here. I love helping and talking about plants! The internet isn't the best at giving useful and accurate houseplant advice. I'm here to help, so no worries! I've been teaching people about houseplants for over 3 years.

When you buy a plant, you get to decorate it with as many cute animal figurines and crystals as you'd like, for free!

We love seeing people get creative and make their plant totally their own. Decorating plants, exploring the shop, and meeting all the animals in the aquariums is a super fun and memorable activity. Invite friends, family, or take a nice afternoon to treat yourself!

  • Houseplants in small plastic pots are $5–$8

  • Houseplants in teacups are around $14 (depending on the plant)

We plant a lot of our plants in repurposed secondhand glass and ceramic containers, giving old pieces new life. We use bowls, vases, teacups, all sorts of things! We totally take donations, too.

Did you know, it's a myth that plants need drainage holes? Drainage can sometimes allow you to give your plant more water than it wants, but it doesn't always work! If your plant has too much soil, it'll hold too much water, for too long.

No amount of drainage will save it. Instead, we focus on giving plants the right amount of soil to hold the water they need, as well as the right amount of water to match.

When you don't add excess water, you don't end up with any excess that needs to drain out. From experience, I know the perfect amount for each size of plant, as well as the perfect container to suit its needs. I'll tell you how much water your plant needs and how often, to keep things nice and simple.

Beyond the Plants

You’ll also find cute extras that make perfect gifts (or treats for yourself):

  • 50 cent Stickers

  • Axolotl plushies—some with names!

  • Axolotl shirts, keychains, backpacks, and lunchboxes

We've got air plants, too! These super cool plants don't like the soil. Instead, they'll happily sit just about anywhere else you put them. They like a bit of sunlight, within a few feet of the window.

In terms of care, they just like to be soaked in water for 20 minutes, once a week on watering Wednesdays. Here's the trick: after watering, you'll want to shake your air plant like a maraca!

That's how you get the extra water droplets off of the plant so it can dry properly and stay happy.

We have air plants in different sizes for different prices: $3 for a little guy like this one who fits in a seashell....

$5 for a classic size

Or $15 for something big!

Display your air plant in style by giving it a little crochet hammock, handmade by my friend, Dawn! Each air plant hammock comes with a free suction cup hook, so you can easily hang it in the window.

Wanna go above and beyond? How about a whole air plant terrarium? For $35, you can add as many air plants as you'd like to a shatterproof terrarium orb, with a matching moon-shaped stand.

You can decorate with rocks, dried moss, crystals, and animal figurines. Everything's included, and it's ridiculously fun!
